What is Pato?

Pato (pah-toh) is a very physical sport that needs a lot of strength in the legs and arms. It’s hard because you can get tackled while on a horse, you need strength in the legs to not fall off the horse and strength in the arms to hold on to the ball, or otherwise call the pato .

History

Pato was invented in Argentina during the 17th century by gauchos who are basically Argentina’s and Uruguay’s cowboys, they put

a living duck in a basket and played the game. It was never added to the Olympics. The game is one of the national sports of Argentina.

How to play

Pato is a simple sport to play. There’s two  teams, everyone is riding a horse. There’s a ball which is not exactly perfectly round, there are four metal handles to hold and you have to get the ball in the hoop which is at the end of each side of the field. You’re allowed to tackle your opponents to get the pato.
