During the 2026 summer transfer window, multiple players signed to clubs for over 100 million dollars. In 2009, when Ronaldo signed to Real Madrid, the Spanish club paid $94 million. At the time, Ronaldo had won the Ballon d’or, an award given to the best football player every year. He also won the Premier League and the Champions League with Manchester United. This Summer we have seen players like Elliot Anderson move to Manchester City for $116 million.

The Premier League effect: English top-flight clubs possess unmatched financial power than in the past. Because even mid-table Premier League teams generate massive revenues, selling clubs know buyers can pay more, and English teams rarely face financial pressure to sell cheap.
The other idea is, Massive Revenue Growth, or the aftermath. Before clubs buy players, they see if they will bring a lot of money to the club. They look at Global TV broadcasting rights, sponsorships, and wealthy state or billionaire club owners that have flooded the sport with capital, drastically inflating player values. These are just a few of the principles of why a players’ value is increasing.
