Judokas(judo players) start with the white belt and often finish with black belt.
White belt – 11th Kyū and the minimum age to have the belt is 3 years old.
White yellow belt – 10th Kyū and the minimum age to have the belt is 4 years old.
Yellow belt – 7th Kyū and the minimum age to have the belt is 7 years old.
Yellow orange belt – 6th Kyū and the minimum age to have the belt is 8 years old.
Orang belt – 5th Kyū and the minimum age to have the belt is 9 years old.
Orange green belt – 4th Kyū and the minimum age to have the belt is 10 years old.
Green belt – 3rd Kyū and the minimum age to have the belt is 11 years old.
Blue belt – 2nd Kyū and the minimum age to have the belt is 12 years old.
Brown belt – 1st Kyū and the minimum age to have the belt is 13-14 years old.
1st Dan black belt and above
1st Dan (Shodan) – The 1st Dan is the first stage of the black belt and the minimum age to have the belt is 15 years old.
2nd Dan (Nidan)
3rd Dan (Sandan)
4th Dan (Yondan)
5th Dan (Godan)
6th Dan (Rokudan)
7th Dan (Shichidan)
8th Dan (Hachidan)
9th Dan (Kudan)
10th Dan (Judan)
In other judo cultures
In other countries and judo cultures there are different belt ranks. For example in some places there’s a purple belt for juniors representing the brown belt for adults. There are many types of variations in belt ranking throughout the world.
