In this article, we’ll be talking about the warm-up many people use; the Bear-Crawl, and if it’s a sport or not.
The Theoretic Answer
The actual answer to the question “Is Bear Crawl a Sport?” is no, bear crawl is not a sport. People do it as exercises or warm-ups before doing actual sports. Bear crawl is an exercise where you try to imitate a bear’s walking; you try not to make your knees touch the ground and walk on four legs. It isn’t considered a sport because it doesn’t have widespread competitive culture and it doesn’t have actual rules; there are different types of rules for bear crawl in different cultures of the world. Different places have different rules for bear crawl.
History
Bear crawl appeared in the 1930s and became a popular exercise. This exercise helps build your muscles in the core, chest, arms, glutes, hamstrings, and shoulders. It can help in multiple sports, for example: martial arts, wrestling, football, obstacle course racing. There even was a bear crawl competition where Devon Lévesque bear crawled 26.2-miles in the New York City Marathon route. He did that in the year of 2020. It was a fundraiser for the FitOps Foundation, an organization that supports veterans mental health. He raised $200,000.
Different types of Bear crawl
There are multiple types of bear crawl: 13 types. Each can help a different muscle.
Even though there are thirteen types of bear crawl I will only mention two in this article.
