Yan Diomandé, a growing sensation

Yan Diomandé was born in Abidjan Ivory Coast, on November 14, 2006 and plays winger (forward). Diomande played street football from a young age before catching the eye of a local academy director at age eight.

Move to America : 

At 15 years old he moved to the USA (United States of America) and enrolled into DME Academy in Florida, where he trained intensively while studying and later helping AS Frenzi win a USPL title.

His trials : 

Later he went on trials with several European clubs, including Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Rangers and Bournemouth, before signing with Spanish side CD Leganes. He signed with them in late 2024 and officially joined in January 2025. He scored his first league goal in May 2025 against Espanyol.

Move to Germany : 

He transferred to the German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in July of 2025 for a reported 20 million euros. He started during the 2025/2026 season, winning Bundesliga Best Young Player after a recorded 12 goals and 8 assists in 33 league appearances . 

Move to Madrid : 

Diomandé moved to club giants Real Madrid in August 2026 for a reported fee of 125 million euros (plus add-ons) , making him a record signing and one of the most expensive African players in history. 

International career : 

Yan Diomandé represented Ivory Coast at the U17 (Under 17) and U23 (Under 23) before earning his senior national team debut in October 2025, scoring against Seychelles . 

He played a key role in helping Ivory Coast reach the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup as his country’s youngest ever tournament player 

Personal life : 

Diomandé has frequently cited that Cristiano Ronaldo was an early football idol.

Diomandé experienced a profound personal tragedy when his 15 year old sister Roxanne passed away shortly after his personal debut; he often dedicates his career milestones to her memory
