Paredes is infamously known for fighting against Eric Garcia and Gavi in the brawl at the end of the 2026 World Cup final. It all started with Argentina’s Thiago Almada who pushed Gavi, Paredes then attacked Gavi. He punched Eric Garcia in the throat and violently slammed him against the turf. After that, multiple other players joined in. That was not his first brawl, in the 2022 World Cup quarter finals, when Argentina met Netherlands, the loose cannon committed a very hard tackle on Nathan Ake and provocatively booted the ball directly into the Dutch dugout. Mad substitutes and staff rushed onto the field to confront him. The Dutch captain, Virgil van Dijck, famously body-slammed Paredes, the match was called “Battle of Lusail”.
- Enzo Fernandez
Enzo Fernandez has been part of many controversies. The biggest controversy he has been part of is when he broadcasted a live Instagram on the Argentinean team bus after winning the Copa America, singing a chant that mocked the African heritage of Black French players. Welsley Fofana, a french player, posted an image of the Enzo chanting labeled “uninhibited racism” on Instagram. French players from his club unfollowed him and didn’t talk to him until he apologized. In the 2026 World Cup semifinal against England, after scoring an equalizing goal, he cupped his hands around his ears to the English supporters. That celebration move was labeled arrogant and disrespectful. In the final, his arrogance finally caught up with him when he received a red card. Chelsea was so fed-up with him that he got transferred to Manchester City FC.
- Emiliano Martinez
Emiliano Martinez is the Argentinean goalkeeper. He is known for his intense mind games and trash talking. When penalty shootouts happen, he delays kicks, kicks the ball away from opponents and trash talks. When the opponent misses or when he blocks the shot, he dances mockingly. Following Argentina’s 2022 World Cup triumph, Martínez targeted French superstar Kylian Mbappé with relentless public trolling, at the 2022 World Cup victory parade in Buenos Aires he was seen with a baby doll with Mbappe’s face taped to it.
