Karvan – Kapaz (2–1): Bottom of the Table, Top of the Drama

On November 11, 2025, Yevlakh wasn’t supposed to tremble. Not on a winter Thursday night, not for a match between the second-to-last and the bottom team in the Azerbaijani league. And yet, the small Karvan FK stadium experienced a night that will live long in the memory. A night when modest football put on the clothes of grand football. A night when two struggling teams gave everything, as if their entire season—perhaps even their very existence—depended on those 90 electric minutes. Karvan won 2–1, but the story was happening in every corner of the pitch.

A chaotic pre-match that set the tone

The atmosphere felt strange from the warm-up onward. A floodlight failed, a ball burst after just ten minutes, and above all a freezing wind blowing from the valley bent the corner flags as if they were made of rubber.
Karvan coach Ramin Gurbanli sensed it immediately: “Tonight… something is going to happen.” And a lot did happen.

The first bombshell: Kapaz score from a clearance… redirected by the wind

The clock shows the 8th minute. Kapaz attack timidly, without much conviction. The ball ends up at Aslanli’s feet, who lofts a clearance forward simply to relieve the pressure.
And then… the wind changes everything.

The ball lifts, drifts back toward Karvan’s goal, accelerates again, and drops in front of Valiyev, Kapaz’s striker, stunned to see it land perfectly at his feet. He only has to place it. Goal.
0–1. A goal from another planet. The crowd is stunned. So are the players.
Karvan have just been punished by a… clearance.

Karvan transform: from chaos comes rebellion

But on that night, Karvan do not collapse. The absurd goal becomes an electric shock. The team starts running, pressing, playing like they haven’t for weeks.

A second half… surreal

Everyone expected the match to calm down. It didn’t.

Kapaz hit the post… twice in thirty seconds

In the 56th minute, Aslanli—again—fires a shot that crashes against the post. On the very next move, Vəliyev meets a cross with a header… onto the same post.
The crowd can’t believe their eyes. The announcer repeats:
“Two posts… two!”

A black cat invades the pitch

In the 65th minute, a black cat runs onto the field, chased by three stewards. The players are stunned. The referee stops the game.
Kapaz protest: “It’s a sign!”
The match takes on a mythological feel.

Karvan’s goalkeeper plays injured… and stops the impossible

The breakthrough: a corner that changes everything

84th minute. Corner for Karvan.
Abbasov steps up and whips in a driven cross. Elshan Mammadov darts to the near post and rockets a furious header home—a strike that seems to carry all the club’s frustration from the past three months.
2–1.
Pure madness.

The ending: ten minutes of heroic resistance

Kapaz push forward, attack, throw everything at it. Karvan drop deep, suffer, fight for every ball.
In the 93rd minute, one last chance: a deflected shot that passes just centimeters wide of the post.
The stadium freezes…
Then the referee blows the final whistle.
Karvan have won.

A relegation battle? No: an epic.

That night, Karvan FK didn’t just win a match.
They won a battle.
They regained belief, rediscovered life, and gave their fans one of those moments you never expect… but never forget.
Kapaz leave wounded and frustrated, unable to understand how such a crazy match slipped through their fingers.

Football doesn’t need giants to create miracles.
Sometimes, all it takes is a modest stadium, two teams in trouble… and a capricious wind.
