In this article, we’ll be talking about Iichi Marumo, the oldest athlete of all time.
Introduction
Iichi Marumo, (Eechee-Mar-Oo-Mo) was born on April 1, 1929 somewhere in Japan. (The precise location is uncertain) He is a 95 year old speed skater, and he’s in a league of his own! (Literally, because no other 95 year old speed skater is still performing!) He is a magnificently talented skater, and even his age isn’t holding him back!
Childhood
Iichi Marumo was a magnificent speed skater, born in a poor family. He’s been speed-skating his whole life, but only started competing at an age many people would be happy to still be alive.
Career
Okay, surprise revelation: Marumo only started competing at 80 years old! He was always a good skater, but he never had the opportunity to play in any competitions as a child. He had to wait until 80 years old for a tournament offer to come up. And bizarrely, he accepted. Anyways, let’s get to it. Marumo doesn’t have the biggest career, but 80 years old isn’t something you see every day!
Marumo doesn’t have any Olympic medals, but he owns over 20 gold medals from international competitions.
Conclusion
Iichi Marumo is very inspiring, because he shows that even age can’t stop you!
