Greatness in the making
The team that would eventually become the Golden State Warriors was founded the same year as the league that would eventually become the NBA. The Philadelphia Warriors were an original team in the Basketball Association of America (BAA) in 1946-1947. They took their name from a previous Philadelphia basketball team in the 1920s. The Warriors took their new league by storm. Led by league-leading scorer “Jumping” Joe Fulks, the Warriors won the championship in their first season. The BAA merged with the National Basketball League (NBL) and became the NBA in 1949. Today the NBA recognizes the 1946-1947 Warriors as the first championships in league history. The Warriors made it back to the championship series the next season. But they lost in six games to the Baltimore Bullets. Fulks continued his high-scoring ways, but the Warriors failed to make another championship run with him on the team. By the 1954-1955 season, Philadelphia had the worst record in the Eastern Division. Team owner and general manager Eddie Gottlieb has also been serving as head coach.
Best team they ever had
The Warriors didn’t have only a good team in 1945 to 1973, they also had the best team in the NBA from 2015 to 2018. During those years, they probably had the best players in the same team. They had one of the best defender of all time, Draymond
Green, who actually won the MVP trophy of defending this season(2024-2025). Green is the most versatile defender in the league, and maybe the best one too. Klay Thompson, one of the best at three pointers in all the NBA. Andre Iguodala, very good at defense too and has a lot of ability for a dunk. Kevin Durant, a basketball legend in the NBA, is very tall and is very good at making points in the box but also right behind the three point line. And of course, Stephen Curry, best three point shooter of all time in the NBA. He can shoot from every angle of the three point line, he can make a half court and even a full court!
