In this article, we’ll be talking about what lacrosse is.

Introduction

Lacrosse (Luh-Kraas) is a native-american invented game that consists of two opposing teams that have lacrosse sticks, a pole with a net at the end to catch the ball, and they try to throw a rubber ball into a net called a “croesse”. Men’s lacrosse sticks have a smaller pocket*, than women’s lacrosse sticks. The teams consist of 10 players on each team.

History

Lacrosse originated in Canada, and it was thought to be invented in the 11th century by native americans. More precisely; the Iroquois tribes, located close to the great lakes of North America. It was mostly played to settle disputes between people & tribes, in a civilized manner, which didn’t involve any fighting or violence. That wasn’t the only reason they practiced lacrosse. They also used it to train for war; it was said to build up strength and stamina, as well as resilience and discipline. Those were the two main reasons lacrosse was invented.

Conclusion

Many people, men and women, play lacrosse these days. It is a great sport, involving a bit of physicality, strength, speed, and most importantly, mentality. I would definitely recommend it to you as a fun team sport.

*Pocket

“The pocket is the area of the lacrosse stick head where the ball sits when cradled”
