In this article, we’ll be talking about what padel is.
Introduction
Padel is a Mexican originated sport, and it’s kind of related to tennis. Padel is typically a two v. two sport, with two players on your team, and two players on the other team. When you’re playing padel, picture yourself playing tennis inside a glass room.
History
Padel was originally a mexican originated sport, invented by Enrique Concuera in Acapulco, Mexico in the year 1975. He thought of using the sport squash as inspiration, and modified it by making the surface and walls out of concrete. The problem with this was that spectators couldn’t watch the game. This was really annoying, because many people wanted to see Enrique Concuera’s newly invented sport. So, later on, no one knows the exact date, tempered glass and weld mesh was used to make glass walls, so spectators could see what was happening. This was the sport’s milestone, and since then, it began to evolve very quickly.
Material
Of course, like every other sport, padel involves material. Lots of it if we’re counting the walls.
The majority of the court is made of colored cement, and the net is made of tied rope stretching along both sides of the field by two iron poles. The walls are mostly made of tempered glass, weld mesh and iron sustaining poles, but sometimes they’re made of plastic instead of glass. That’s pretty much the main materials in a padel court.
Rules
The padel room has two entrances on each side of the court. It also has a net in the middle of the court, where you have to hit the ball over. You can hit the ball out of the room, but your opponent has to run through the entrance, and hit it back on the court. If not, it results in a point for you.
The whole point of the room case is that you can use the walls to your advantage. For example, if my opponents hits the ball to me, it can bounce one time max on the floor, and you have four options:
Hit it back at them,
Hit it against the wall in their direction,
Hit it out of the pitch, into the bleachers, and wait for them to hit it back to you,
Or, simply just don’t do anything and let your opponent gain a point…
(Which I think is the reason how you lose games)
The bouncing rule is that if your opponent, (or you) hits the ball over the middle net, towards your side of the court, you can only let the ball bounce one time before you have to hit it back at them. Or, like I said earlier, your opponent gains a point.
If you unfortunately hit the ball into the net and not above it, that’s another way for your opponent to get a point.
Conclusion
Padel is a very exciting, and amusing sport where you can unleash your inner padel potential on the field and have fun playing with friends or family.
